Gates Foundation awards Prompt Diagnostics a Grand Challenges grant to improve point-of-care HIV testing

The Gates Foundation has awarded Prompt Diagnostics a Grand Challenges grant to develop a low-cost, automated platform integrating blood sample input, plasma separation, and HIV RNA extraction for HIV diagnostic testing.

The platform is based on Prompt’s magnetofluidic cartridge technology, using magnetic beads to separate plasma from blood and extract HIV RNA for diagnostic testing. The team will build and test a prototype cartridge and a low-cost, battery-powered device to house it, evaluating performance against standard clinical laboratory procedures.

NSF awards Prompt Diagnostics Phase II SBIR grant to advance point-of-care diagnostic platform

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Prompt Diagnostics a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to develop an automated, point-of-care diagnostic platform for infections caused by Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis.

The device combines two antibody-based tests, including quantitative Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR), into a single automated cartridge, enabling complete diagnosis within minutes in an affordable, easy-to-use format. The underlying technology is designed to be adaptable to other infectious diseases as well.

CARB-X funds Prompt Diagnostics to develop a test for drug-resistant gonorrhea

Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator (CARB-X) is awarding Prompt Diagnostics $1 million to further the development of a portable PCR platform to detect multiple pathogenic bacteria targets and their antibiotic susceptibility which will help to guide treatment at the point-of-care.

If successful, Prompt’s approach could enable more effective treatment management and promote antimicrobial stewardship to prevent the development and spread of multi-drug resistant gonorrhea globally, particularly in low-resource settings with remote or limited access to secondary healthcare facilities.
